'Bird's Nest' to embrace last test event

(Beijing, May 21) Some 1,000 athletes will descend on the "Bird's Nest" for the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Sohu.com China Athletics Open to be held on May 22-25, according to the event's organizing committee yesterday.

All together 932 athletes from 14 countries and regions will be competing in 42 Olympic events, such as men's and women's 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, high jump, pole vault, discus and hammer throw, while 21 athletes from home and abroad with disabilities are going to compete in four Paralympic events of wheelchair racing and wheelchair throwing.

Among the athletes, 154 are from abroad and 799 are from China, including big names like Liu Xiang, the world record holder in the 110 meter hurdles.

With ticket sales running smoothly, spectators could still buy the entry tickets either online or on the spot.

The four-day Athletics Open, which also attracts 487 sports officials and over 2,200 journalists from all over the globe, will be the last test event to be held in the National Stadium, the main venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
