(Beijing, May 22) On the opening day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 China Athletics Open staged at the National Stadium, all the five sprinters representing China in the women's 100m first round qualified for the semifinals. They are Wang Jing, Qin Wangping, Chen Jue, Jiang Lan and Tao Yujia. Among them Wang Jing and Tao Yujia achieved their personal best results.
Wang Jing, in Group 5, timed 11.47, her personal best which was merely 0.05sec shy of the Olympic qualification mark B of 11.42. Her teammate Tao Yujia clocked 11.63 to lead Group 1 into the next round.
Since none of China's women sprinters has reached the 11.42-Olympic B mark so far, the open tournament offers the athletes an important opportunity to earn a previous berth in the Beijing Olympic Games.
The women's 100m semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow evening.
