(Beijing, May 22) The men's 10000m finals of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 China Athletics Open held at the National Stadium this evening saw Ezekiel Jafari Ngimba of Tanzania finishing first with a time of 28:30.23, followed by China's Dong Guojian with a personal best record of 28:49.78.

The race began at 20:05. Ngimba and his teammate Marco Joseph Marco soon emerged to lead the group, with Dong Guojian from southwest China's Yunnan Province following suit. In the last 3,000 meters Dong once managed to overrun one of his Tanzanian opponents.

The African runners enjoyed a clear superiority in the long-distance event. Compared with them, China's pre-event favorite Ren Longyun put up a below-par performance, finishing sixth with 29:19.32.

Today's final results still fell short of the Olympic qualification B mark

The men's 10000m world record of 26:17.53 was created by Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele on 26 August 2005.
