(Beijing, May 22) With a time of 31:38.35 Zhang Yingying from China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region emerged the victor in the women's 10000m of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 China Athletics Open this evening. The silver and bronze medals went to Bai Xue and Chen Rong, Zhang's teammates on the national team, respectively. Sun Yingjie, a controversial runner in China, did not show up in the race.

With the participation of such veterans as Zhou Chunxiu and Wei Yanan as well as elite runners Xie Fang, Zhang Yingying, Song Xiaoxue, Chen Huirong and Bai Xue, today's star-studded final race was second only to the men's 110m hurdles heats, where China's "flying man" Liu Xiang made his debut at the newly-built National Stadium.

After Gansu's Chen Huirong led the first 3000 meters, Zhang Yingying and Bai Xue took turns to lead, with Zhang outrunning all her opponents in the last 1000 meters to finish in 31:38.35. Bai Xue placed second with 31:40.38 and Chen Rong third with a personal best of 31:41.60.

Veteran Zhou Chunxiu from Jiangsu Province was fifth with 32:21.13, her best result in the season.
