(Beijing, May 23) Comments from gold medalist Valerie Vili (NZL), silver medalist Gong Lijiao (CHN) and bronze medalist Li Ling (CHN) at the women’s shot put press conference.
Valerie Vili (NZL) – Gold Medalist
On her first memory of shot put and the reason why she fell in love with it:
“It was thirteen years ago, and shot put is a unique sport.”
On her first feeling of the Bird’s Nest:
“It’s amazing, and I’m proud of being the champion, and I’m moved by the national anthem each time.”
On her expectation for the Olympics:
“I will try my best, because the competition will be fierce. There are many competitive athletes here in Beijing in August. We can’t say what will happen until then.”
Gong Lijiao (CHN) – Silver Medalist
On her performance of 19.09m:
“I am quite happy with this result, although I failed to attain my personal best, 19.13m. I will try hard to qualify for the Olympic Games and to be among the top eight at the Games. Even so, I do not have any special plans before the Olympics.”
Li Ling (CHN) – Bronze Medalist
On why she was unhappy after winning bronze:
“I performed just OK, but after being in the competition for so many years, I have changed my attitude towards results. I put 100 percent effort into each throw, so I can adjust myself to whatever the results and be optimistic. I enjoy shot put very. Today I got my best result in 2008, and I believe in the coming months, I will perform better.”
