(Beijing, May 24) In the men's 400m hurdles final on the third day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 China Athletics Open, the Doha Asian Games gold medalist Narisako Kenji of Japan won the title with a time of 48.87 seconds, while China's Meng Yan got the silver with 49.85.

The men's 400m hurdles final was the first event contested this evening, where Japan's 2006 Asiad champion Narisako Kenji and runner-up Meng Yan were pitted against each other again. As a result, Narisako Kenji once again gained the upper hand over his Chinese archrival.

Meng Yan's result of 49.85 today was a bit slower than what he had achieved at the Doha Asian Games. Despite his lead midway he failed to outrun his Japanese counterpart in the final spurt.

Brendan Cole of Australia placed third with 49.91.
