As a result, Sun Wenli emerged the runner-up with a time of 8:44.86, following gold medalist Lin Xiangqian from Jiangsu with 8:39.46.

The men's 3000m steeplechase final began at 21:00, with Lin Xiangqian, winner at the 2007 National Inter-city Games, beating a strong field for a comfortable win by over five seconds.
