Beijing, 24 May - Comments from the medalists after the women's long jump final at the National Stadium on Saturday.
Ikeda Kumiko (JPN) - Gold medalist
On her performance:
"In April and May I competed in the Japan Athletics Tournaments, so my strength is not at its height. Here in Beijing, it's quite difficult for me to adjust myself to the climate, too dry and much dirt. In June I will participate in other tournaments, and try to improve my run-up. For the hot climate here, I will just try my best to get accustomed to it."
Bao Sha (CHN, BJG) - Silver medalist
On her performance:
"I have improved my personal best from 6.26 to 6.43 today. I didn't expect that. My result is around 6.10 meters in daily practice, and I attribute this big leap to my run-up and landing in that round. But there is still room for improvement in my controlling of the tempo."
On whether other athletes' foul attempts affected her:
"I told myself to just compete with myself, not to care about others. So I didn't even notice any foul attempts."
On her future plan:
"I'm going to participate in the World Youth Athletics Championships in June. I'm quite young, and it's difficult for me to compete in the Beijing Olympics, but I believe I can do that in the next Olympics."
Chen Yaling (CHN, ANH) - Bronze medalist
On her performance:
"In the past two years, I was always in a quite good shape. I feel a little regretful about my tactics, as this year I'm changing my tactics, such as tempo of my run-up, so my rhythm was in a little disorder. Today I failed to control my tempo very well. I performed worse during the preliminaries yesterday. However, I've adjusted myself, and there was still some improvement in my performance, quite stable. Now I'm quite confident in controlling my tempo in future games."
On her most satisfying attempt:
The last attempt was the best, although I had a foul. I was giving my utmost in that jump and my posture was correct."
On her shape:
"I feel I'm in good shape physically. But I have a problem in my mentality. I have not done very well during the past few competitions this year. So I have been feeling frustrated. But I have regained my confidence."
On her opinion on Chinese long jump:
"I'm not in a position to make comments. Maybe we should work harder in our basic training, such as speed and tempo, and improve step by step."
On her future plan:
"I will try my best to get the B standard in the Olympic Qualifying Competition in Suzhou. I will have more training to make my performance more consistent. I will strive to enter the Beijing Olympics."
