(Beijing, May 25) - Comments from athletes after the men's high jump final at the National Stadium on Sunday:
Lee Hup Wei (MAS) - Gold medalist
On his performance:
"I'm quite satisfied with my performance. I created my new personal best (2.27m). The competition today was a big surprise to me."
On the audience:
"It is my own style to invite the audience to clap hands with me and cheer for me, because their behavior will affect my emotion a lot. I always do it when competing in my country. "
On his origin and language skill:
"I'm a Chinese Malaysian and my parents came from Fujian. I can speak southern Fujian dialect."
On his preparation for the Olympics:
"When I go back I will start training for the Olympics in the next three months. But as for the goals in the Olympics I haven't thought about it."
Wang Chen (CHN, TJN)- Silver medalist
On his performance:
"This is my personal best. The applause from the spectators encouraged me a lot. But I haven't reached the B standard yet. I will try to reach it in the Asian Youth Tournaments in June. Some old athletes were beaten by me today because of their bad luck to some extent. My result today should be attributed to my step-by-step efforts."
On his opinion on those who were born in the 90's:
"The biggest difference between me and those old athletes is my direct expression of the feelings with some trifle gestures. I am fond of listening to the music and Big Four Stars in Hongkong. And high jump gives me confidence and spurs me to improve everyday."
On his spectacles:
"I have several pairs of spectacles, and this is the only one for the competition. It has already accompanied me for five years. The pair of spectacles is fastened well around my eyes, and I have little problem with spectacles since I am already used to them."
Huang Haiqiang (CHN, ZHJ) - 10th place
On his performance:
"I am very satisfied with it (2.10m), since I have knee injuries this year. It's my best performance this year."
On his future plan:
"Although I have reached the A standard, I can't compete in any event because of the injuries. I think I will have some rest."
