
Beijing, 25 May – Comments from gold medalist XIE Limei (CHN, FJN) at the Women’s Triple Jump Press Conference at the National Stadium on Sunday.
Xie Limei (CHN, FJN) – gold medalist
On the ranking of Chinese triple jumpers in the world:
I am the Asian record holder but I am unable to be in the top three in the world.”
On how Russia produces strong triple jumpers:
“We do have some physical differences. In Russia if you want to compete in the Olympic Games you’ve got to reach 15.00m.”
On her specific training:
“Our coach trains us following the European method a lot and also tailors our training towards our physical build.”
On the gap between Chinese tripe jumpers and the world record:
“My personal best is 14.9m and the world record is 15.5m. Normally athletes reach 15.1m so I think I have the chance to win (in the future).”
SHA Li (CHN, HLJ) – Bronze Medalist
On her performance:
“It was not that good. It might have been because I wanted too much. So I tried too hard.”
On her plan for the future:
“Since I have already reached the B Standard, my next target is the A standard. In June, we will have the qualifier. I hope I can do better then.”
Li Qian (CHN, BJG) – Silver Medalist
on her performance:
“Through it is my seasonal best, I think it is just OK. I was hoping to reach the A Standard in the competition. But I have failed to do that.”
On her future plan:
“My next target is to win the qualification in June into the Olympics.”
XIE Limei (CHN, FJN) – Gold Medalist
On her performance:
“I was quite disappointed with the result. I haven’t participated in any tournaments since the one in Spain in March. So I am not in my best shape. My only today was to finish the game without ant injury.”
On her injury:
“I have strained hamstrings in both of my legs before this game. I got the injury in March I have not recovered from it yet.”
On her preparation for the Olympics”
“My coach has made a detailed plan for me, which includes the controlling of my mentality during the game. In the next three moths, I will try to recover completely from my injury, and get accustomed to the Olympic atmosphere. I have reached the A Standard early. So I will give it my best shot in the coming Olympic Games.”
